Thread: my first time reaction to ARAM2.

So I have been playing ARAM2 for a while. I picked it up a couple of months ago but never got around to playing a good solid game for months after I purchased it.
My first reactions were not so smooth. I had no idea what I was doing and most of the community members in ARAM2 is not the most helpful bunch of men around. I pretty much had to read all the info in the notes when I join the server. I like the Domination mode and as well as the insurgency mode. So far those are the two game types I play since they are the closes server to me and as well as the most populated. My reaction to both game play types was it was only coop game play. It was hard to find servers that are PvP (player vs player) or better yet team PvP. It was hard for me to get the structure going as most of the time people don’t work as a team and I get left out as a lone wolf. Not that much people use the VOIP, and when I do find a few people, I tend to stick with them which is great. I finally figured out how to become a good engineer in the domination map and playing support roles for repairs and refuel in the map but the lack of communication and coordination really frustrated me most of the time as people did whatever they want in the map and wasting asset. And yes I do ask questions while I am in game.

In summary, I like ARAM2 but the lack of support I get from the game is what turns me off. Also the team structure how everyone gets to do whatever the hell they want kind of turns me off as well. At least in Project reality, I make a squad and they all flow orders like what soldiers actually do. That’s my 2 cents so far.

I still like the game a lot, its better visually and mechanically and the game play is endless. I still press on forward to learn the game.

You need to play with ACE and on a server that evolves around it. It will change how you view Arma. Go to this forum, United Operations - An ArmA Gaming Community They have a neat guide to get you started. (How to install Ace & the other mods.) Play on their server. You'll never go back to Project Reality again. I thought I'd never say that but, really the server they had blown me away. Try it.

I tried ace, but the stopid installs and updates just bogged me down and frustrated me. I dont have time for all that BS.

Everything you stated IS SPOT ON from a new players perspective! I AGREE wtih 100%.
I started playing this game about a few months after it came out. I had NO experience with ARMA b4 that. I wanted to Join a clan that was team oriented and signed up with TAW.
I was too early... No one Played, a few british guys and me stateside. I got waaay bored of playing by myself.
I lonewolfed it for a loong time. AND... you are right, the whole Arma community in general is snobbish( I assume cuz its so complex). In fact I made a post stating as such on the Armaholics site and was told.....
I should Just quit the game! (POINT PROVEN)
But, I the when onto to play with another clan, Had loads of fun there and then they decided that PVP was the only way to go.
Everyone stopped playing.
I came here and and loads of fun and then everyone stopped playing for some reason.
Anywho, to make a long story longer...
I stil play this game every chance I get and STILL learn new things weekly.
Do a search on the forums here for BruceALMIGHTYs Domination tips. And PM me, although nothing is Private and I will help you out and tell you were to play until Gib gets it back together.

You also talked about, teamwork and squads.
In some servers you can recruit friendly AI. I love it and use it always. When you get right down to it, to the possibilities can be unlimited when commanding youre own AI squad.

I am usually in the top 2 or 3 on 2 different servers. LT can tell you some more about all that as well.
As far as PVP goes, I dont know of any. Sounds fun in theory. Personally I would like to see a wide open hardcore foliage map that is unlimited in size and some kind of sniper obective.
Somewhat like the movie..SNIPER.
But, all I have seen thus far is small maps, and nothing special.
Not Opposed to it, Just havent seen anything thing that works.
I mean thats the whole appeal to ArmA in the first place IMO.
Big maps, lots of versatility. Be anything, drive, fly anything, do anything.
THats why Domination works. (funny for me to say cuz I hated it at first)
I do lots of different things. Especially if the map allows. Sometimes, I Just watch my map and command AI.
Everyday, I think of new possiblilites to use my AI squad.
For example, I sometimes keep 1 AI at base in a heli to give me refernce point when flying back to base. I can also call him to come rescue when I am shot down.
Thats just basic to me at this point, I bet most ppl have never thought of that.

Or... I command 3 AI's to drive a tank to outside of AO (Area of Operation) right at the get go.
Then I always got a back up plan.
Or...I load up a bunch of Friendly AI in a black hawk style chopper and do a fly over.
THEY JUST SPOTTED EVERYTHING FOR ME in advance.
When you parachute in you also call for paradrop while you are freefalling..
About the time you land you could have a vehcile there!

IF that dont want you to come back and play the game what will?

I love the fact that the game takes THOUGHT.
I dont even get my loadout weapons until I look at the map and assess the situation.

I have always been know as a tanker. Due to the fact that I have Track IR and a Nostomo. I can have stepped up my game considerably.
In the past i would Just go tanking and lonewolf and was effective. Now i get 3 AI and command AI and Command fire, and dirvie through AO's and my AI wreak HAVOC AND HELL all the while I get the benefits of their kills.
I even use AI to capture flags.

Man, I could go on forever, Just on what I did TONITE!...the server i play on has been beefed up way harder. But, I still thought of new ways to have fun. Thats why i dont get it.

Deadwalking worked on a PVP gaming system that is closer to PR. He has finished the coding and our community didnt back him.. we really didnt even try it. I was so fustrated with everyone I just stopped playing. No downloads, nothing special to do it just worked... very close to PR game play.

By the time dead released his mod, I was bogged down with shit to do irl, and this will stay this way for a few months.

Although.. Aug 30 will change this..

Problem is I hate playing with BOTS (AI). I like to play with other players, that's why I fancy BF2 PR so much as it requires a ton of players in a PVP level game type. ARMA2, i find, likes to play with bots which is a total turn off for me. I think the only time i got to play pvp was when the server decided to play pistols only at night. that was a bit of fun for me. Other than that, I got to play the role play game where you play cops , civilians and bad guys, not my type of game play.

Yeah I hated that as well, but thats all changed now since they have an auto-updater program, which updates whenever you launch the game. So they eliminated that hastle. Try it now.

Deadwalkings game only has bots until enough people join.
